Similar version of a 'swear' jar. Except that you are the one paying for it instead of someone else.
Remember when you were a child and someone swear in front of you and you tell them to drop 10p into the swear jar as a reminder never to swear again?
Well, self-improvement jar works the same way except that you use it as a mean to improve yourself.
I remember when I was in my first year of university, My conversation was filled with Malaysian slangs and it got a wee bit annoyed because my friends had difficulty understanding me. I tried to improve but with lots of difficulty due to my upbringing. I seriously wanted to be better so I decided to implement the 'broken English' jar. Every time I caught myself speaking with Malaysian slang, I will have to drop 10p into the jar. The money in the jar will then goes to charity. By mid-2nd year, my jar was completely empty all throughout and I even surprised myself with proper British English.
My motto is this: "If I can do it, anybody can do it!" and the same vice versa
We just need the determination, honesty, integrity, and willingness to make it works wonders.
That's why I thought I might want to come up with variety of self-improvement jar to keep improving myself.
I know most people won't be bothered by it. In fact, they might laugh over how naive the idea is... That's fine. I am changing and improving myself - not them. I am making myself a better person - not them. They can stay behind if that's what they want - I'll just keep moving forward. After all, it is my life and my race. Nobody can run my race for me except myself. So it's best I focus on improving myself and keep running my own race. But if anybody wants to join me, I'll be happy to share my tips and tricks with you.
As a Christian, there are so many fruits of the Spirit that we need to attempt in order to be like Jesus.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
I possessed some of them but lack of so many others. I know it's hard to change and I really do want to change for goodness-sake.There are some part of me that, if not careful, can ruin my entire life and my relationship with people.
There are also many other characters and personality that the bible verse did not mentioned and I should head up as well; so that every single moment of my life, I can and I WILL become a better person. I do not want to wait for people to tell me things because 1) I am an adult and I should be expected to know the do's and don't's and 2) it will be extremely embarrassing if I constantly required telling off every single time.
So I came up with the idea of implementing a 'self-improvement/ Fruit of the Spirit' jar with all the characteristic of the fruit of the spirit. Every time I catch myself hating someone for whatever the reason, I will have to put in 10p into the jar. Every time I kick a fuss because I cannot get things my way, another 10p into the jar. Every time I get impatient over things, another 10p into the jar... Eventually the jar will be full and the money will go straight to charity.
By the time the amount of money in the jar dropped significantly, we know that I am improving.
To me, this is the perfect way to train oneself; because I believe that all of us have the desire to improve in every aspect possible. But self-improvement is so subjective that we cannot really see the changes in us that's why most of us gave up midway. We have nobody to tell us things/ we don't want people to know that we need to change and etc. So in order to help ourselves to get an idea of our personal development, the 'self-improvement' jar will serve as a perfect visual cue to our overall refinement.
Negative thoughts counted too. So please cease out the fear, anxiety and former negative thoughts. They should be 10p apiece too. And I am glad to say that I haven't put in a single pence yet although I will soon find myself filling it up in no time - because negative thought is my worst enemy.
Well, hopefully in a year or two, I will be a complete changed person and the jar will be empty for the rest of my life. (And yes, this is obviously going to be my lifetime jar.) I can change the jar anytime I want, but the purpose has to remain the same forever. That way I can lead a purposeful life that is completely filled with the Fruits of the Spirit.
Note: Feel free to create your own rules to live by. If you think you lie more than your liking because it has become a habit, then include that. if you think you are rude to someone because it just happened spontaneously and has become part of your natural reaction, then include it as well. Honestly, it is your choice of how and what you want to change in yourself.
As for myself: It is to completely case-out all my weaknesses and seriously develop a stringent positive traits that is to the Fruit of the Spirit because I find it rather disturbing when people avoid me without telling me why; and then later I learn that it is due to my negative traits that ruin my relationship with others. It hurts because I didn't expect to lose my friendship just like that; but there is no blaming others for my own fault. So in order to keep all my current and future relationships, it's best I do something with myself rather than expecting other people to be patient with me. Honestly speaking, even the most patient person will one day reach their wit-end. So best is NOT to get there at all! And in order not to get to their nerves, the best thing is to do something to change myself completely so that I can easily avoid unwanted trouble again; because let's say: 90% of the time, the problem did come from my side after all. So why not admit it and change it for the better?

Count your blessing...
It is the little thing that matters...
Do you have food on the table?
If you do, give thanks...
There are people from the third-world country who are starving without a piece of rice/ string of noodle on their plate...
Do you have clothes to wear and change?
If you do,
You are luckier than those who only have clothes that are much shorter than themselves...
Do you have roof above your head?
If you do,
You are so much more fortunate than those who has to endure under the weather like plants in the garden
Do you have someone to say 'I love You' every night before bedtime?
If you do, please count your blessing for every single second that word is murmured to your heart...
Some people are dying to hear that for the last time before they take their last breath!
Count your blessing...
Stop complaining...
Things don't change when you grumble...
So, learn to enjoy what is good in those hard time...
Life is a gift...
Out of zillions sperms, only one survive to become a human.
Will that helps you to know that you are only of the luckiest sperm that got to become a human?
Will it helps you to know that you're the CHOSEN one?
i personally believe that each one of us are very lucky to be on earth...
To have so many things in life...
To have good food to eat..
To have beautiful clothes to wear...
To have a house to call our own
And to have someone to love you abundantly...
That is a blessing to each one of us...
So,
Please keep counting your blessing...

Why I do Bible Study?
It's been a super long time since I accepted Christ as my Saviour;
And I feel like I am still lacking of something in my life...
Something very essential and crucial with my connection with Christ Jesus....
And the connection is - a pure understanding of 'Bible Study...'
As a Christian, bible study play a huge part in our faith because it is one of the strongest disciplines in Christianity. Or we can general call it 'a personal reflection/ quiet time.
The bible is a book that draw us closer to God by reading His Words and ask Him about everyday life question from a mini how-to responses to gigantic issue like relationship, family, work, life issues and etc. I personally refer the bible to my daily life 'manual book'. It is exactly like buying a product from a shop that it came with a manual book on how to use the item and how to care for it and etc. So the bible is exactly to a manual book except that we are the object and we need to constantly look into it to know how to deal with ourselves the right way.
I find that owning the bible is just a 10% of getting to know God because the truth is: anybody can own the bible. Even the non-believers might one day obtain the bible and put in their house and act like they are just as Holy as every other Christians in the world.
Reading the bible is only about 40% to connect with God. It does sounds like a pain; but the truth to be told. Those who knows how to read are mostly and generally reading it for fun. They merely treat it like a bedtime story. And while it is not wrong to read the bible and sleep on it - which is what I sometimes do myself... but that's not what a real Christian would do to complete a real bible study course.
Bible Study, on the other hand, is a whole new level of reading the bible. Every verse in it is so different from the other. You see different footnotes at the bottom - they all link to the other verses and etc. And each verse connect to your daily life. You don't just read it; you question what you read right to the core. You know the famous 'Wh-' questions that you learn in school? That's when you start using it in the bible. And that is what made it so interesting; because then everyday when you have something in your mind, you see a verse that reflects to your thoughts. Sometimes, you may find yourself looking at the same verse of the past but it, surprisingly, now refers to something else - which is your current situation and no longer the former that you once had! That's what make bible study so unique and compelling.
I used to read the bible as a way of flip pages around and then only look at it again when I go to church for services but hardly ever remember what I actually read at the end of it! It's like, God has been talking to the wall all day long even though I was actually sitting in front of Him for hours! How typical is that?
Then for quite some time, something came into my heart.... "Read the bible and really start memorising word by word of it. Pin it right into your head and actually put it into your daily life." So I did just as that.
You see, God knows my strongest point when it comes to academic success. I am excellent at memorising whatever I read to the point that I can reproduce every word perfectly! That's why memorisation is the best method for me to kick start into bible study realm. I begin memorising popular verses and then, gradually, into more personal ones.
However, memorising is just a wee bit of bible study. So the next step is to actually understand what I memorise. You see, God didn't create me to be a parrot. He did not ask me to turn myself into a copier-machine. He created me to be a unique human being that represent Him in this earthly world.
So, when I finally memorised whatever verses that deemed necessary to my condition, I am to reflect and ask myself: "What is God trying to tell me in this verse?" and etc... I have to be completely honest with it because this personal Q&A is actually to assess myself from the inside out and to make sure that I am really walking in God's light. With the Q&A, I can look into how to improve myself so that whatever mistakes that I made in past is out of the way for good.
Then the next step is application: I begin to apply God's words into my life. Whatever I have memorised including all my understanding based on the personal Q&As, I modified it to fit into my life so that I can finally represent the model image of God. Someone who is completely and faithfully follow the Lord Jesus Christ, her Saviour.
For example: Impatient-ness is my worst point in life; and this has gotten onto my nerves for a long time and gradually onto my loved ones' nerves as well. I think if there is one thing that people are completely annoyed about me is that I have very little patient and it actually drives everyone crazy! It has been so horrible to the point that it actually ruined some of my best relationship with the people that I truly care about. That's why I knew that something has to be done; and someone has got to tell me HOW to stop it! I mean, this is really crisis! If I continue to be impatient, sooner or later, I will lose all my friends and I will die of heart-attack. That is really a wake-up call! Therefore I knew that I must turn to God there and then to change my life wholeheartedly!
You see, I have been praying for years since I have become a Christian at the age of 9. But I still have no clue about how to solve my own weaknesses. And that is just so annoying because; as a Christian, we are literally an advertisement for God. We are to represent Him and to attract people to Him. That's why we are here on earth to preach the gospel. But if we keep flashing our weaknesses while trying to preach the gospel, then people are not going to like it and they will not want to have anything to do with us and so why do they want to get to know God then? And we have become a full embarrassment to His Name! God will not punish us but He will be so disappointed that we display such bad attitude! We should be connecting people to Him but now we have ruined Him because we gave people the wrong image of God hence we have ruined His Name because He is not the way we are... He is different from us. He is perfect. But He needs us to represent Him as His model image, therefore, we need to be careful to walk in His path so that people will want to be like us and they want to get to know Christ - through us!! And therefore I realised that I was really in a wrong path with all my foolish mistakes and I need to do something to correct myself. That is when I heard the voice said: "Read the bible. Memorised those verses. Pin it in your head and heart. Remember it and act accordingly. You will do good."
Now that I have been on a constant bible study mode, I find my life improved tremendously.. I didn't know how easy it was until I really do it. It is just so amazing. I have been memorising bible verses nonstop since then; and then critically question every one of them back and forth. Whenever I have problems in life, one of those relevant verses will automatically pop-out and I realised that I needed to use it as a tool to that current situation. It was just so good that I can say that my life has completely change for the better.
If anyone need help in changing their life because life is tearing them down completely; then it is high time they really start looking into studying the bible diligently like myself. I have done it and it has completely turn me around.
Please note: Bible study does not turn my situation around; but it has turned ME around; because I am the one that need to change MYSELF. You know what they say? 90% is based on your actions and reactions but 10% is based on your circumstances. So, 90% is the majority and it should easily overcome the 10% of it if you, who is the 90% of it, knows how to behave, act and react upon the situation correctly. That's why it is so important to study the bible and to diligently apply it into our life; because the bible will teach us how to behave so that we can develop the model image of God.
That's why I am now on a run with bible study and I feel so good about it. It has become my favourite past-time and the best way to get closer to God on a whole new level. In fact, it has (gradually) change myself and my life. Now, I can be sure that I am on the right track to my life destination.
And I feel like I am still lacking of something in my life...

Be different…Be You!
I guess it is something that all
of us heard about long ago…
But
most of us refused to apply to it…
Because…
We
are afraid to be strange and alone?
We are scare of being the
weird-case in the group…
I used to be scare of being
different…
Refused to be outcast…
I want to belong to someone else…
I
want to be everywhere where my friends are…
To
the point that when people abandoned me,
I fear of isolation…
And little did I know…
Nobody
wants me to be part of their group…
They
said, I don’t belong…
I am not like them…
I cannot be their friends…
And they wish that I leave them alone
at times…
But
nobody was brave enough to tell me the truth…
Until
one of them blurted it right into my face…
When
things like that happen,
I
ended up asking myself…
“Why me out of everyone else?”
I am like them…
Or so I thought?
I tried to change myself to blend
in with them…
But I am still unacceptable…
Sigh…
Surely there must be someone who
can accept me, right?
No…
I ended up doing everything alone…
A lone-ranger being laughed at for
being alone…
I tried to find cure/ solution to
my isolation but no answers…
Ended up,
I am still mobbing on the street
alone…
It was many years later,
A
voice spoke to me…
“Why are you so desperate to be
accepted?
Why
do you want to be the one for them when you are uniquely yourself?
Is
it because of approval?
Is
it due to lack of confident?
Why do you want people to say… “You
are who I needed’?
When
you should say to yourself… “I am all I need…”
Life
doesn’t change if you wait for someone else to change…
Life
change when YOU change yourself!
So,
I
begin to pluck my courage,
And left the bunch of friends that
doesn’t count me in…
And start training myself to be
valuable on the inside out…
Without any expectation from
others…
Be completely outstanding…
Be someone that nobody can be…
Because only you can be you!
It
wasn’t easy to begin with…
But
I brave it all out…
I
may look like an oddball within the crowd…
But
I am fine with it…
I learn to accept the difference
between all other human beings…
When
people look at me,
They
have different opinion of me…
Some may say I am lonely or quiet
or shy…
But that’s fine….
Such comment doesn’t define me
entirely…
As the saying goes…
“Don’t judge a book by its cover…”
Loneliness doesn’t mean lonely…
There is a friend within the thin
air…
If we knows how to acquaintance
with it…
Then you will know that someone is
always there…
I have learnt that well…
My secret friends are my music and
my soul…
People
cannot hear my music,
Because
music only sings to me…
Unless I willingly share it out…
Yet nobody knows until they saw me
scrabble it on a piece of paper…
But still,
It doesn’t sum me up as a whole…
You need more details to portrait
me in depth…
Even artists can tell you that you
need at least 100 of hours to paint a live portrait before you can call it ‘done!’
Suddenly,
I
am comfortable in being myself…
I
am good in being me…
Being
different…
Being
special…
Now,
I
don’t need to find someone to accept me anymore…
Because,
In
the end, I am still uniquely me…
I am me…
So,
Just be true…
Be YOU!

Keep on loving…
Our life is
supposed to be made of love…
But we are
always on the ignorance side when it comes to love emotions.
Especially
when we don’t get what we want,
We start
throwing tantrums and grumbling like a spoilt child.
We lost our
sense of gratitude and start hating people…
Love isn’t
only for our spouse/ partners/ girlfriend/ boyfriend.
Love is for
everyone – from our family members, friends, colleagues to strangers and
ENEMIES!
But we
purposefully only choose to love those who gives us what we want…
While completely
cast out those who have nothing of our desire…
That’s how
selfish we are as human being…
We think
only of ourselves…
And no more
than our circle of self-worth…
Anything beyond
that is none of our concern…
That’s why
the world is losing its compassionate love.
Everything
is all about ‘Me, me, me, me, Me, ME!!!
We boost
about who we are… but hardly a compliment towards others…
We show-off
our materials… but never allowed others to lay a finger upon it…
If people
doesn’t meet our expectation,
They are
out of the league…
But when we
got cast out, we plead to be taken back…
We have
more self-love but only love a size of a pea for others…
Why?
Who taught
us that?
What have
become of us?
Friends,
Now I know
why…
We love
lesser than we are supposed to be…
Because we
have been conquered by the devil…
Believe it
or not…
We all have
that moment when we have problem with people….
We want to
fight, shout, scream, argue and etc…
That every
onuce of anger inside us just wanted to be lashed out in split second…
You know that
feeling when you lashed out – it just feel like you have achieved something
grand…
But it
actually hurt so much at the end of it…
I can’t
tell you how many times I have been there and done that…
And every
single time it happens,
I feel like
the worst person on earth…
But
thankfully,
I am glad
to embed myself into meditation.
In my case,
My sort of
meditation is to recite Christian bible verses…
It has do
me lots of good than anything else…
And it is
through that that I realized…
I have been
controlled by the devil who is constantly trying to win me over all the time…
The devil has
downplayed us by making us go insane with our behavior…
The devil
has stir turmoil in our life and relationship…
The devil
has caused us to fight and argue with our family even though it is avoidable...
The devil
has won us over…
Is that
what we want?
If not,
Let us stop
it here…
Stop the
devil from taking away our loved ones…
Stop him
from destroying our life and relationship…
Stop him
from scaring us and fearing us to death…
Don’t allow
him to rule us…
Everytime
someone throw hateful remarks at you,
Understand
that it is not that person that hated
you…
It is the
devil that possess in their body that hates you…
So, please
do not be fooled and make enemies with people…
Because none
of us deserves enemies…
We all need
more love than anything else…
So,
Just keep
praying…
And don’t
ever give up…
Just keep
loving all over again and again….
Make the
devil angry and he will eventually leave you alone…
“Be on your
guard. Stand firm in faith. Be courageous. Be strong. Do everything in love.” –
1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Do NOT Judge…
It is so easy to judge others…
When we should be judged just as them…
Yet,
We detest it when someone stabbed on us…
The most well-known bible verse from Matthew 7:1-5 (NIV) for this topic
is this:
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way
you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you.
“Why do you look at the speck of
sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own
eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’
when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take
the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the
speck from your brother’s eye.”
Isn’t that like a slap on your own face?
You ditch someone…
In return, you, too, will be ditched for the same account…
When you snared at someone because they are poor, useless, illiterate,
jobless and etc…
Sooner or later, you/ your descendant will face the same fact…
“What comes round… Goes round…”
Snare at the beggar… One day, you or your descendent will be one of the
beggars.
Snare at the jobless man… One day, you or your loved one will be jobless
as well…
Snare at the illiterate who can still earn an income through other good
means… One day, your descendent will strike with a learning disability disease
that can’t even keep himself upward…
“What comes round… Goes round…”
Friends,
Life is hard enough without further judgement…
We need kindness, not criticism…
We need help, not demoralisation…
We need love, not scornfulness…
Yet, it is the latter that we get and that’s what we give…
when expectation is not being met….
Life is so ‘stuck-up!’
(And we all better be careful of that, noe…)
For the days of humbleness is fading off….
And sooner or later…
We will be living in the world of closed doors…
There will be no more friendly face-to-face conversation over a cup of
coffee/ tea…
But rather,
A mobile device glued to the face…
There will be lesser children at the park/ playground…
But more kids confined indoors not knowing who their neighbours are…
The number of obesity increased…
And lesser healthy people in the world…
(No wonder there are more and more hospitals than ever!)
More grade ‘A’s on the report card…
But lesser understanding/ physical output to the subject…
I see more straight-A students on the rise…
But when asked to present themselves upfront,
Their mouth were glued…
Tongue were knotted…
Yet, they are proud of the A’s on their report card…
When someone asked me if my result are just as fantastic as theirs…
I downplayed myself…
“Life isn’t for showing off”
No point telling people how good you are, when you can’t even present
yourself at all….
Only true friends know the truth…
They know how much you’ve struggled…
I rather be poor in monetary even though I am richer in knowledge…
I rather get a scrap on my report card when I can actually fly higher
than my peers on the presentation skill…
I rather live in a tiny house and be happy to help those who doesn’t
have roof above their head…
Please bow down with humblesness…
Life isn’t all rich and mighty…
It is for us to flourish it with pure joy and happiness…
So please don’t judge people by what they don’t have…
Or what doesn’t meet your expectation…
You are you…
And they are they…
Help others, if you can…
If not, please leave them alone…
Including knotting your wiggling tongue!
They already have more than enough burden to deal with - without you
adding more trouble into it…
Me?
I generally leave people alone...
Especially when I am incapable of helping myself begin with…
I understood enough trouble without needing more of it…
That itself helps me to be more understanding towards others who are in
my shoes…
And I am very thankful for such wonderful experience…
So,
No more judgemental thinking for moi…
Our journey is our own…
Our success and downfall is ours to savour…
Only we know the struggle of whatever we went through or are going thru…
There is no need to share it out if we don’t feel like it…
Most of us, will not share it out anyway…
And that itself makes life a little challenging…
For there are lots of gossipers and critics flying around us…
That’s why Matthew 7:1-5 (NIV) comes in handy…
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For
in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you
use, it will be measured to you.
Remember: “What comes round… goes
round…”
So,
Please stop judging others…
Or you, too, will be judged!

Being alone doesn't mean loneliness...
Being alone also doesn't mean we are friend-less or unfriendly...
Being alone is actually the time when we have a
peace of our own mind...
It also means that we can just relax and be our
true-self…
But surprisingly...
A lot of people detest being alone…
Because they fear of being label as 'unfriendly...',
'stuck-up' and etc...
Well,
I enjoy being alone...
Because when I am alone...
I have the chance to think of what I want to do
for the next few hours...
Or even sit at the corner and daydream...
But the funny thing is that...
I wasn't a quiet child to begin with...
In fact,
I was an extremely noisy young mitt...
When I was younger, mum had to silent me practically
every minute of day...
But then... something drastic changed me entirely...
At the age of 13,
I lost one of my true friend to cancer...
She was literally a 'sunshine' to my life...
School was terrible, but she made it passable
for me to get thru those horrible days…
The year when she die,
I lost all hope to be noisy…
I was taunted and pushed round yet my
mouth was seal…
That was the big change in me…
My voice got softer..
And my personality overturned...
From a hyperactive child to a solemn
teenager....
I bottled up whatever pain I have to endure and
sob in my room…
I never knew how much death can change a
person...
But it has certainly changed me!
And then...
All of sudden...
I wanted to be alone...
My friends see me alone as being lonely...
But I don't feel lonely at all...
Instead I feel peaceful...
Most people are surprised…
How I can tolerate silent?
And how did I managed to stay home alone?
Well,
I don't see why we need to make our life so crowded at all times...
I understand that some people must have
others around them to feel belong...
And when there is no one with them...
They begin to worry that something is wrong with
them...
Either they are unwanted/ forgotten/ they have
done something wrong but no one wants to tell them the truth...
Sometimes...
I did wonder why I started to enjoy solitude..
And when I think back,
I found out that...
It’s because...
It gives me the sense of tranquillity.
It allows me to connect with my inner soul…
It gives me the privilege to have one-on-one
conversation with God…
Because when we group with others...
We tend to cover up and be someone else...
It is just like wearing a mask that other
people like to look at…
While hiding our ugly faces behind it...
Sometimes...
Just by looking at someone else wearing masks make
me feel so fake...
Much less to even use the mask and
cover my own face...
Then it shows that...
We actually cannot be our true own self in front of
people...
We need to hide our true colour in order to mingle
with them...
In the end...
It is like…
Stuffing ourselves inside a baby crib when we
are 10 times bigger than a 5-year-old child....
So,
I have decided that being alone is the best
answer to being my true self…
I don't have to play pretend...
I don't have to act interested when my heart is
totally out of it...
Because I know that no matter how good I act...
Someone will sense that I am truly uninterested...
Some people aren't fool no matter how you tried to play 'dumb'.
So the best is to move away...
And keep to yourself...
Learn that being alone is not loneliness...
It is also not unfriendliness...
But it is a privilege to be who we are and
thoroughly enjoy our inner peace...
That's why I never complain when I am always
alone...
Because I learn to enjoy my peace...
I learn to find my inner soul and
'communicate with it'.
And that's the real sense of being alone...
